D.A.R.E. Graduation

This week, my son graduated from the local D.A.R.E. program. Obviously, I'm proud of this accomplishment. I've talked to my son about the dangers of drugs, but the way the program is set up, the kids hear about drugs from the people who encounter it everyday.
I know that some people are against the program, saying that it is a waste of money, we're just brainwashing the kids, etc. I wish they were in the auditorium with the graduating class when the essay winners read their essays out loud for those gathered. Some of these kids wrote about how their family members were high on drugs when they were arrested by the police right in front of them. Not to mention the devastating effects of drugs like Meth have on families. I know I can't protect my son from everything, but I hope that if and/or when that time comes, he'll be able to take what he learned in the D.A.R.E. class and make a stand.
